Changelog
Every release, in the open.
Tayyib has shipped steadily since February 2024. This is the full record of what changed — new features, fixes, and the engineering behind how verdicts are made.
Version numbers restarted at 1.0 for the public launch in August 2026. Earlier builds were betas, numbered 1.2 through 3.7. Found a problem? Flag it in the app or email azhaan@eattayyib.app.
- Product origin is now chosen from a country list when editing, so entries stay consistent
- Your contributions and settings now follow you more reliably, even after reinstalling
- Added safeguards to keep community-submitted content appropriate
- Behind-the-scenes stability and quality improvements
Under the hood
- Your identity in Tayyib is now tied to your iCloud account instead of a per-install device ID, so contribution credit survives reinstalls and new phones. The migration is additive: nothing is deleted, and it falls back to the old behavior if you're signed out of iCloud.
- Community-submitted text (aliases, flags, product names) is screened by an automated moderation check before it's saved.
- A fresh new look: redesigned Home screen and navigation
- New Edit Product page with Kosher and Vegetarian / Vegan info
- Redesigned feedback form
- Smoother scanning with live progress while we read the label
- Product barcode number now shown on the edit page for easy reference
- Fixed duplicate ingredient processing
- Redesigned release notes as a timeline, fixing notes that were cut off
Under the hood
- No API key ships in the app anymore. Every AI request now goes through Tayyib's own server, which holds the key and accepts only narrow, validated inputs.
- Verdicts are deterministic: the model runs with sampling pinned server-side, so the same ingredient gets the same classification on every scan.
- Classification prompts live on the server, so accuracy fixes ship in minutes instead of waiting on an App Store review.
- A new admin review workflow: a queue for unverified products, a queue for community flags, and an Ingredient Center where reviewers write sourced explanations and lock verified classifications so the AI can't override them.
- Fixed a race where two overlapping analysis runs could add the same ingredient twice, and cleaned up products already saved with duplicates.
- Significantly improved AI ingredient classification efficacy
- Redesigned ingredient scanner
- Simply take a picture with the built-in camera and ensure all ingredients are in frame. Then confirm and have the ingredients processed
- Fixed occasional crashes whenever a product’s info is opened
- Fixed formatting issues for non-halal products
- Fixed issue that turned all ingredient names yellow when an info button is pressed
- Fixed issue where inaccurate info was being shown before integrity was established
- Improved and refined AI generation accuracy, especially for chemically synthesized ingredients
- Partially fixed ingredient scanner issues
- Fixed issue where ingredient info would have two dividers
- Other minor optimizations and improvements
- Upgraded the generative AI model powering the app to a newer model
- Fixed various issues with the product flag system
- New feature: customizable app icon
- iOS 18 lets you theme home-screen apps light, dark, or with a custom tint. Tayyib now supports all three.
- New feature: ingredient flags
- You can now flag ingredients for review, just like products. Reports go to our admin team, and flagged ingredients are tinted so other users can see the open flags.
- Added debug info to the bottom of a product page
- Reverted the reduced wait time before analysis
- New feature: flag system
- You can now flag products for review. Flags go to our admin team and are shown publicly until the issue is resolved
- Useful for catching possible errors in locked products
- Fixed a critical issue where products scanned for the first time weren't properly saved to the database
- Removed data purges for reference safety
- Removed the force-refresh feature, which caused more problems than it solved
- Reduced wait time before analysis by ≈25%
- New feature: accuracy verification
- Our admin team now reviews products to make sure their info is accurate
- Reviewed products are locked from public editing once confirmed
- They carry a “Verified Accuracy” label

- Includes dark and tinted variants for iOS 18
- Major bug fixes, including
- Users not being credited for product edits
- Proof statements disappearing in Edit Product Info
- Usernames not saving
- Fixed a crash when an ingredient without an info writeup was not halal
- New feature: ingredient info
- Select ingredients now explain why they're halal, doubtful, or haram, citing fatwas, the Sunnah, and the Quran
- Ingredients with a writeup can't be refreshed by the AI
- Fixed summaries reporting the wrong number of alcohol / animal ingredients
- Better centering on the top navbar
- New feature: ingredient scanner inside barcode analysis
- When our database has no ingredients for a barcode, scan the label right there and contribute it to the Tayyib database
- Left-aligned haram / doubtful reasoning
- Fixed being unable to add ingredients manually when a product had none
- Fixed contributed proof statements not being saved
- Fixed renamed users not seeing the new name on their contribution credits

- Kosher, Vegetarian / Vegan, and explicit Halal-label toggles, each with guidance and a proof statement

- Stopped background processing when a product analysis is dismissed
- Many visual refinements to Home, feedback, and sheets
- Better parsing of third-party product data, including kosher and explicit halal labels

- Added where a product comes from, plus guidance when it's sold in halal-only countries
- Added in-app release notes
- Milestone: ingredient label scanning

- Manual barcode entry for older phones without VisionKit
- Quranic verse on the Home screen

- Performance improvements to ingredient processing
- Fixed products not showing on the Home screen
- Prevented duplicate ingredient records (1.4.1)
- Added a Home page showing products recently scanned worldwide, instead of opening straight into the scanner
- Lowered the iOS requirement to 16.0 (previously 17.2)
- Started collecting minimal, anonymized product and usage data
- Fixed Dark Mode display
- Shows “Unavailable” instead of “Loading…” when ingredients can't be fetched
